With so much attention these days being focused on cocktails and premium spirits, it's easy to understand why liqueurs are frequently relegated as passé and out of step with contemporary tastes. However, the fact is any bartender worth his or her salt will attest the phenomenal resurgence of the cocktail is due in large part to the overlooked contributions of liqueurs. In fact, the liqueur contains only four ingredients—ginger, sugar, cane spirit and filtered water—and no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. After the cane spirits are steeped with the fresh ginger it is rested for 30 days to allow all of the constituent flavors to thoroughly integrate. Barrow's is gluten free, Kosher certified and bottled at 22% alcohol (44 proof).

Even at a glance you can tell that this is the real deal. The liqueur has a cloudy appearance due to the sediment in the bottle, which is to be expected with an all-natural product like this. It has a generous semisweet and spicy nose brimming with the focused aroma of fresh ginger. Barrow's is appropriately named as it quickly bathes the palate with an intense blast of spicy warmth and the alluring flavor of fresh ginger. The finish is long and spicy with a hint of sweetness.

Ginger is a popular spice and a frequent ingredient in craft cocktails.
