Casa Noble Anejo Tequila

Casa Noble Añejo
100% Agave Tequila

By Robert Plotkin

Casa Noble 100% Agave Tequila merit grand cru status. They're traditional spirits, certified organic and handcrafted with the utmost care. Those in the market for an authentic slice of life that will gently seduce their senses, here's the ticket.

Casa Noble tequilas need only be poured into a glass to be fully appreciated. Although true, the reasons for the tequilas' brilliance can be found in the explanation of the art and science of how it's made. Produced at La Cofradia Distillery (NOM 1137) in the town of Tequila, Casa Noble is made from mature blue agaves slow-baked in stone ovens for 38 hours, after which they are allowed to ferment spontaneously by yeast in the air from nearby flora. The indigenous yeast lends an intriguing flavor to the finished spirit.

Tequila by law must be distilled twice. In order to produce a lighter styled spirit, Casa Noble tequilas are triple-distilled in alembic stills. The aged marques—reposado and añejo—are matured exclusively in French Limousin white oak casks rather than ex-bourbon barrels. Famous for it role in aging cognacs and fine wines, Limousin oak is an extremely fast-growing tree, resulting in the widest grain pattern of the species. Its loose pores allow a spirit to extract more flavorants from the wood.

Casa Noble Añejo 100% Agave Tequila is a sophisticated spirit aged for 2 years in new Limousin white oak barrels. The 80-proof tequila has deep golden color, a velvety medium-weight body and a generous bouquet of spice, chocolate and toasty oak. Upon entry it quickly fills the mouth with warmth and vanilla, citrus, mocha and sweet herbal flavors. Like all noble spirits, it has a lingering, sigh-inducing finish.

The Casa Noble Añejo Limited Reserve is an exquisite single barrel tequila matured in lightly charred French white oak barrels for 5 years. Each cask yields about 230-240 (750ml) bottles, each of which is individually numbered, labeled and signed by the makers. The extra añejo has an oily textured body and alluring bouquet of clove, caramel, orange zest and fresh herbal aromas. The palate is spicy and peppery with long-lasting citrus, mint and smoky notes.

The distillery bottles two artisanal reposados. The Casa Noble Reposado 100% Agave Tequila is aged in French white oak casks for 364 days, which is the maximum time a reposado is allowed to stay in wood. The tequila strikes a true balance between the spirited character of the unaged Casa Noble Crystal and the mellow refinement of the Casa Noble Añejo. It has a silky lightweight body, a wafting, bakery-like bouquet and a palate laced with vanilla, toffee and dark chocolate.

Single barrel tequilas are intriguing products. Like all spirits of its type, no two casks of tequila are exactly the same. That means once an individual barrel of Casa Noble Single Barrel Reposado 100% Agave Tequila is exhausted, it can never be replicated, which makes the tequila something of a precious commodity. It is drawn from a single cask after aging 364 days in oak.

Bottled shortly after leaving the still, Casa Noble Crystal 100% Agave Tequila is a superb spirit with a sleek, satiny body and an engaging fruit and cocoa bouquet. The lively palate features a balanced offering of peppery, floral and spicy flavors and a long, citrus finish.

The skillfully crafted tequilas of Casa Noble deserve to be savored in a snifter and given the opportunity to show what they're really made of.
