The spiced rum category has been experiencing phenomenal growth of late. While sales of rums on the whole are relatively vigorous, it's the spiced rum segment that has the industry talking. Partially fueling the trend is their remarkable mixability. Few types of spirits can boast such vibrant flavors. The launch of Cruzan 9 Spiced Rum is bound to change the category's landscape.

Cruzan 9 is the latest spirited gem from the Nelthropp family, who for 8 generations has been distilling rum at the Estate Diamond Plantation on the island of St. Croix. It is crafted with a singular blend of 9 all natural spices—vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, mace, allspice, pepper and juniper berry. In addition to representing its blend of nine spices, the name Cruzan 9 pays homage to St. Croix's nine districts. The spiced rum is bottled at 80 proof.

Those searching for a rum with more flavor and pizzazz will be pleasantly surprised. It has a deep amber hue, a medium-weight, satiny textured body and warm wafting bouquet of vanilla, sweet caramel and baking spices. The rum immediately fills the mouth with a delectable array of flavor. The lingering finish features layers of enticing vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and toasted oak. Equally alluring is its modest SRP of $15.99 for a 750 mL.

Cruzan Rum is synonymous with the spirit of St. Croix and the unpretentious and authentic rum life. Named for the people of St. Croix—called Crucians—the Cruzan Distillery is famous for crafting light and amazingly flavorful spirits. The brand is lead in no small measure by Cruzan Estate Light Rum, a blend of triple-distilled rums produced in a five-column, continuous still. The blend is aged in charred American oak bourbon barrels between 2 and 3 years. After aging, the rum is filtered through activated charcoal to remove impurities and much of the color it obtained during aging.

The Cruzan range also includes Cruzan Estate Dark Rum, a blend of triple-distilled rums aged in oak bourbon barrels for a minimum of 2 years and Cruzan Estate Diamond Rum, a savory, triple-distilled añejo aged in charred American oak barrels for 5 to 10 years.

Cruzan Single Barrel Estate Rum is handcrafted from a blend of triple-distilled rums aged between 5 and 12 years in American oak bourbon barrels. After blending, the rum is placed in new American white oak casks that are heavily charred inside for secondary aging. This extended aging allows the elements of the blend to "marry" and fully integrate. No batch is bottled until a panel of tasters deems the rum ready for release. Cheers!
