Rum has been distilled at the Estate Diamond Plantation on the island of St. Croix since 1760. The Cruzan Distillery is famed for crafting light and amazingly flavorful spirits. The brand has become one of the most successful brands of Caribbean rum in the world, lead in no small measure by Cruzan Estate Light Rum.

A blend of triple-distilled rums, it is produced in Cruzan's five-column, continuous still. The blend is aged in charred American oak bourbon barrels between two and three-years. After aging, the rum has a golden hue. It is then filtered through activated charcoal to remove impurities and much of the color is obtained during aging.

The Cruzan Estate Light Rum is an unexpected treat; rarely are light spirits so easy to drink neat. The rum is crystal clear, medium-bodied and has a delicate, floral bouquet. It has a dry, light palate, one marked with creamy flavors of vanilla bean and spice. The finish is crisp and of medium duration.

Blindfolded it would be easy to mistake the Cruzan Estate Light for a gold rum. Its body, bouquet and palate reflect its barrel-aging. The rum makes an excellent base for nearly any type of cocktail.

The Cruzan range also includes Cruzan Estate Dark Rum, a blend of triple-distilled rums aged in oak bourbon barrels for a minimum of 2-years and Cruzan Estate Diamond Rum, a savory, triple-distilled añejo aged in charred American oak barrels for 5- to 10-years.

 


Cruzan Light Rum Recipes

Bahama Pina Colada
House specialty glass, chilled
Pour into an iced blender canister
1 1/2 oz. Midori
1 oz. Cruzan Estate Dark Rum
1 oz. orange juice
2 oz. coconut cream syrup
2 oz. pineapple juice
Blend thoroughly
Pineapple wedge garnish
Banana Cow
House specialty glass, chilled
Pour into an empty blender canister
1 oz. Cruzan Estate Light Rum
3/4 oz. Cruzan Banana Rum
3/4 oz. Cruzan Orange Rum
3/4 oz. grenadine syrup
1 oz. half & half
2 scoops vanilla ice cream (4–6 oz. ea.)
Blend thoroughly
Banana slice and cherry garnish
Black Devil Martini
Cocktail glass, chilled
Pour into an iced mixing glass
2 1/2 oz. Cruzan Estate Light Rum
1/2 oz. Dry Vermouth
Stir and strain
Black olives garnish
