Glenmorangie SIngle Malt

Single Highland
Malt Scotch Whisky

By Robert Plotkin

Located in the northern Highlands, the Glenmorangie Distillery was established in 1843 at the site of a former brewery and is one of only a handful that produces only single malts. The foundation of their portfolio is the revered Glenmorangie Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky.

Perennially ranked among Scotland's bestselling single malts, Glenmorangie 10-year old is a magnificent whisky, one that typifies why single malts are in such high demand. It is crafted using lightly peated malt and mineral rich water from the nearby Tarlogie Springs. The whisky is distilled in large, uniquely designed pot stills and then aged in sun-baked, freshly charred casks made from American white oak.

Glenmorangie 10-Year Old Single Malt may well be one of the most accessible whiskies on the market. It has a broad bouquet of malt, spice and toffee and a delicious palate imbued with lively citrus and honeyed flavors. The malt finishes like a pleasant dream.

A laudably innovative distillery, Glenmorangie has released a distinctively wonderful range of 12-year old single malts each sporting different wood finishes. The ever-expanding lineup features PORT Wood Finish (port pipes), Madeira Wood Finish (Malmsey Madeira drums), Sherry Wood Finish (Oloroso sherry casks) and Burgundy Wood Finish (Burgundy barrels).

Comprising the distillery's upper echelon are the spicy Glenmorangie 15-Year Old and the soft and floral Glenmorangie 18-Year Old single malts. Recent limited bottlings have included a First Growth Claret Wood Finish, Côte de Nuits Wood Finish and Fino Sherry Wood Finish. Slainte!
