Grey Goose Vodka

Grey Goose Vodka

By Robert Plotkin

America got its first taste of Grey Goose Vodka in 1997 and within months the brand was earning medals at international competitions and being ranked among the world's elite. Its widespread popularity has made Grey Goose the top selling and fastest growing super-premium vodka in the United States.

Grey Goose Vodka is made in the town of Gensac-la-Pallue located in the Cognac region of western France. It is distilled in small batches from 100% French wheat cultivated in the rich, fertile soil of Beauce. After the vodka leaves the alembic still, the maître de chai—cellar master—adds artesian spring water to reduce its alcohol content to 40% by volume. The pristine, limestone-filtered water is drawn from the Massif Central Mountains in the Champagne region of Provence. With its wheat coming from the northwest part of the country and the all-important water from the south, Grey Goose is truly a citizen of France.

The brand's meteoric success pays tribute to its crowd-pleasing personality. Grey Goose has a lustrous appearance, a supple, medium-weight body and a delicate bouquet of buttery, pastry-like aromas. It quickly fills the mouth with a warm array of nutty, semisweet flavors before fading into a citrus and spice finish. Little wonder why the vodka has been turning heads in the States since its release.

The first of the brand's four flavor extensions, Grey Goose L'Orange is a genuine pleasure from the first sip to its lingering finish. Introduced in 2000, the 80-proof, small batch vodka is distilled with the natural essence of Florida oranges. Grey Goose L'Orange has pristine clarity, an oily textured, medium-weight body and the succulent aroma of freshly peeled oranges. Its vibrant citrus palate is especially enticing. The finish is warm, zesty and impressively long. Before playing with this thoroughbred in mixed drinks, take a moment to enjoy it slightly chilled. It's well worth it.

Grey Goose Le Citron debuted the following year. The small batch vodka is a sophisticated spirit infused with the natural essence of Menton lemons. Le Citron is crystal clear with a satiny smooth, medium-weight body and a generous bouquet redolent with the aromas of lavender and sun-ripened lemons. It immediately fills the mouth with the zesty citrus flavors before subsiding into a warm, surgically clean finish. It's a refreshing, delectable experience.

Grey Goose La Vanille Vodka is completely in step with contemporary tastes. Natural vanilla flavor is added prior to distillation, which ensures that the flavors are fully integrated in the finished spirit. The vodka has a voluptuous body and a semisweet vanilla bouquet. La Vanille is skillfully balanced and possesses just enough vanilla flavor to be alluring without overwhelming the palate.

Introduced in 2007, small batch Grey Goose Vodka La Poire is infused with the natural essence of Beurre d' Anjou pears. La Poire's lively floral bouquet and delicate fresh fruit palate make it an ideal choice for use in cocktails.

The extraordinary reception Grey Goose vodkas have received is due in part to their drink making applications. Imbued with tremendous flavors and wafting aromatics, the entire range has distinguished itself as a top-shelf performer with unlimited creative potential.
