Jose Cuervo Black Medallion

Jose Cuervo Black
Medallion Tequila

By Robert Plotkin

This tequila was not crafted with a shot glass in mind. To the contrary, Cuervo Black is imbued with an abundance of upscale flavors, which makes it ideally suited for today's cocktail culture. It's intended to be sipped on the rocks or mixed with any number of items. While many tequilas shrink under such conditions, Jose Cuervo Black Medallion Tequila shines.

Like all of the Jose Cuervo tequilas, the Black Medallion is double-distilled at the 200-year old family distillery, La Rojeña, from blue agaves grown in the foothills near the town of Tequila. It is comprised of a signature blend of añejo tequilas aged in charred oak barrels for 12 months. The blend is further rested, allowing the constituent spirits to become fully integrated, after which it is bottled at 80-proof.

True to their word, Jose Cuervo Black Medallion is sufficiently bold and distinctive to perform beautifully when mixed. The tequila has a lustrous mahogany amber hue and a generously spicy and herbaceous bouquet. The velvety body generates exceptionally little heat, but does fill the mouth with a host of tantalizing flavors; including cocoa, cinnamon, apple and toffee. The finish is splendid, long, soft and flavorful. Black Medallion is a spirit with grace and exuberance, a rare combination for a modestly priced spirit.

Its outgoing personality makes it an ideal choice for featuring in your next specialty Margarita or mixed with cola, which has become a phenomenally popular way to enjoy the brand.
