The most visually stunning tequila making its American debut is artisanal KAH "Day of the Dead" 100% Agave Tequila. The ultra-premium brand is presented in striking, hand painted ceramic skulls, which pay homage to the Meso-American Dia de los Muertos—Day of the Dead—tradition. Every bottle of KAH—which means life in ancient Mayan—is an individual work of art. The really good news is that as gorgeous as the bottles are, the spirits inside are even more so.

The KAH range of certified organic tequilas is handcrafted in the Lowlands of Jalisco at Fábrica de Tequilas Finos (NOM 1472), the same distillery that produces Agave 99 and El Diamante de Cielo tequilas. After harvesting, the estate-grown agaves are shredded, baked in stainless steel autoclaves—a requirement for becoming certified Kosher—and fermented in covered tanks using a proprietary strain of yeast. The fermented wash is then twice distilled in a stainless steel pot still and triple filtered. All but one of the expressions are bottled at 40% alcohol by volume (80 proof).

KAH Añejo 100% Agave Tequila is barrel-aged in American oak for up to 2 1/2 years. During its stay in wood, the tequila develops a rich gold/amber hue, a medium-weight, velvety textured body and an enticing bouquet of charred oak, vanilla and spice. Its smooth entry quickly expands, bathing the palate with citrus, caramel, coffee and chocolate. The lingering finish is warm and divinely inspired.

Limited edition KAH Extra Añejo 100% Agave Tequila is a luxurious spirit created to be savored and relished. The tequila is aged in American white oak barrels for up to 4 1/2 years. It has a deep amber appearance, a round lushly textured body and a slightly smoky nose. The palate is savory, spicy and mildly peppery, while the long finish is laced with vanilla, toffee and maple syrup.

In a commendable break from convention, KAH Reposado 100% Agave Tequila is bottled at 55% alcohol (110 proof). What's the benefit? The higher proof means that less water is used to dilute the tequila when it comes off the still. The result is a significantly more flavorful spirit. Another point of distinction is the reposado is aged in French Limousine casks for a minimum of 10 months. Between the higher proof and the extended aging, KAH Reposado is something special.

The tequila has a dark amber hue, a full round body and wafting floral, spicy and herbal aromas. Its entry is prickly warm and quickly fills the mouth with the long lasting flavors of cinnamon, vanilla, citrus and butterscotch. The finish is spicy and warm, but not hot. It's a fascinating reposado, an ideal choice for use in gourmet cocktails.

Bottled directly from the still, KAH Blanco 100 100% Agave Tequila is silky, lightweight and imbued with the aromas of white pepper, cinnamon and citrus zest. This Lowlands gem has a spicy, herbal palate and a long, delectable finish.

In every respect, KAH Tequilas are worthy of a museum exhibition. Salud!
