Milagro 100% Pure
Blue Agave Silver Tequila

By Robert Plotkin

Leyenda del Milagro is one of a select cadre of premium distillers that produce tequila relying solely on traditional techniques. The slow, labor-intensive process greatly affects the quality and flavor of the finished spirit. It's likely most evident in the Milagro 100% Pure Blue Agave Silver Tequila.

Super-premium Milagro is made in the Highlands of Jalisco at Tequilera Cielito Lindo. The tequila is distilled entirely from estate grown agaves that are slow roasted in brick ovens for 36-hours. The fermented agave juice—mosto—is then triple-distilled in small batches, which yields a characteristically clean, light bodied tequila. All of the Milagro expressions are bottled at 80 proof.

Aficionados who appreciate fine, well-crafted blanco tequila will take an instant liking to the Milagro Silver. It has pristine clarity and a slightly oily body. The highly aromatic spirit is imbued with the wafting fragrance of citrus, dried herbs and ginger. The nose alone makes the experience well worth it. The tequila quickly fills the mouth with waves of dry, herbaceous flavor, a savory mix of brine, cereal grain, red grapes and black pepper. The finish is respectably long with prominent pepper notes.

Milagro Reposado is barrel-aged for no less than 6-months, during which it acquires a pale golden hue, a velvety textured, medium-weight body and the wafting aromas of brine, caramel and chocolate. The palate sports the additional flavors of cinnamon and dried fruit. The medium-length finish is spicy and slightly sweet.

The Milagro Añejo is a small batch, single-barrel aged in oak barrels for 18 months. It has a golden hue, a lushly textured body and a peppery, briny and pleasantly sweet nose. The palate is a lavish offering of tropical fruit, black pepper, sliced oranges and toffee, all of which linger for a splendid finish.

The entire Milagro family of tequilas is appropriately named, and in this day of autoclaves and flavor enhancers, the "Miracle" is the real deal.
