Award-winning Montalvo Tequila 100% de Agave is an untraditional tequila that purists will adore. It breaks from convention in as much as it is triple-distilled, whereas the majority of tequilas are twice distilled. The additional pass through the pot still renders the tequila lightweight and silky smooth. As enjoyable as that is, perhaps its most appealing characteristic is its brilliant representation of agave. If you want to taste and smell what tequila is made from, then Montalvo is the brand for you.

Montalvo Tequila is handcrafted at Groupo Tequilero Weber [NOM 1578] from mature agaves grown in the Lowlands of Jalisco. Once at the distillery, the agaves are baked and the extracted sugar-rich juice is slowly fermented. Afterwards fourth-generation tequila producers Carlos and Sergio Gonzalez skillfully distill the fermented wash—referred to as mosto—three times in a traditional copper pot still. The finished tequila is then bottled at 40% alcohol (80 proof).

Sipping the silver expression of any tequila range is the surest way to assess the artistry and craftsmanship of the distiller. Such is the case with Montalvo Plata Tequila 100% de Agave. Free from the obscuring affects of barrel aging, the crystal clear tequila is pure and unadulterated. It has a wafting citrus, black pepper and herbaceous nose and a montage of fresh flavors, including tropical fruit, white pepper, orange zest, cinnamon and baked agave. The finish is long and spicy warm.

Equally captivating is Montalvo Reposado Tequila 100% de Agave, which is aged for 4 months in both charred America oak barrels and French Limousin oak casks. During its stay in wood, the tequila develops a rich golden hue, a satiny, medium-weight body and a generous bouquet of spicy and herbaceous aromas with notes of toasted oak. The tequila raises little to no heat as it quickly expands filling the mouth with the long lasting flavors of coffee beans, cacao, vanilla, caramel, pepper and baking spice.

The elder statesman of the range is Montalvo Añejo Tequila 100% de Agave. It is aged for 14 months in both American white oak and French Limousin oak barrels. The amber/gold tequila has a velvety smooth body and the aromas of cinnamon, nutmeg, roasted coffee and vanilla bean. The longer the añejo is allowed to breathe in the glass, the more glorious aromas make their way to the forefront. The palate is complex and well balanced, both of which make it an excellent tequila to sip after a elegant dinner.
