You can make bad wine from great grapes, but you can't make great wine from bad grapes. The same holds true for tequila. Making a great tequila begins with mature, hand-cultivated agaves grown under optimum conditions. Those used to make Tequila Celestial 100% Puro de Agave are single estate-grown in the Lowlands of Amatitán, Jalisco by 4th generation agave farmers. Their quality only begins to tell the story of why this tequila well deserves the critical acclaim it’s received.

Tequila Celestial is made at Tequila Las Américas [NOM 1480] under the expert supervision of Master Tequilero Raul Garcia. The sucrose-rich agaves are harvested, split and oven roasted for 36 hours. They are then crushed and the collected juice—referred to as aguamiel or honey water—is transferred to open vats where it is allowed to ferment for 7-10 days using naturally occurring airborne yeast. The fermented wash—called mosto—is twice distilled in a traditional pot still and rendered to 40% alcohol (80 proof) with pure volcanic spring water.

Tequila Celestial Reposado 100% Puro de Agave is a Lowland masterpiece matured in charred, American white oak barrels for up to 11 months. The golden hued tequila has a satiny textured, medium-weight body and an enticing floral, herbaceous nose. The longer you allow this aged marvel to breathe, the more of its aromatics will come to the forefront. Your patience will be well rewarded. The tequila has a soft, gentle entry that quickly expands bathing the palate with the flavors of spearmint, vanilla, honey, butterscotch, cinnamon and nutmeg. Its finish is long and spicy warm.

Equally captivating is Tequila Celestial Añejo, which spends a minimum of 18 months in charred, American white oak barrels. It’s an elegant spirit graced with an amber/golden hue, a velvety textured, medium-weight body and a generous bouquet of butterscotch, cinnamon, cacao, all-spice and toasted oak. It, too, is at its best after 10 minutes or so in the glass. The palate presents an extravaganza of flavors, including caramel, dark chocolate, honey, citrus zest, clove, cinnamon and vanilla. The lingering finish is warm and satisfying.

Fans of sipping blanco tequilas will savor Tequila Celestial Silver. Bottled fresh from the still, it has pristine clarity, a satiny, lightweight body and a floral and herbaceous nose. The tequila has a gentle entry and a palate of almonds, oranges, roasted agave and a dash of black pepper. The finish is clean and crisp.
