Van Gogh Mango Vodka

Van Gogh Mango Vodka

By Robert Plotkin

Honestly, wouldn't you rather be somewhere else right now? Someplace intriguing like on the beach in Tahiti, Jamaica or Barbados? Perhaps lounging about in Fiji or soaking up the rays in Aruba? The allure of the islands is nearly irresistible and a perfect tonic for those of us who long to escape the day-to-day grind.

While not everyone can park the car and jaunt off to the tropics, sipping on a tall drink made with Van Gogh Mango Vodka may be the next best thing. It's a luscious vodka with an exotic and rather enthralling taste. A quick sniff, sip and shallow and you'll be a fan.

Launched in 2004, the ultra-premium vodka is produced at the Royal Dirkzwager Distilleries at the Cooymans Distillery in Tilburg, The Netherlands. Master Distiller Tim Vos handcrafts the vodka in small batches using mango flavor imported from Indonesia, premium neutral grain spirits and purified water. Its true-to-fruit character is derived through a proprietary double-infusion process that requires the vodka to spend at least 8 weeks in underground tanks to allow its flavors to thoroughly integrate. The all-natural spirit is bottled at 70-proof.

Van Gogh Mango is a delectable break from the routine. The crystal clear vodka has a satiny textured, medium-weight body and a lively, focused nose of citrus and mangoes. Its aromatics are downright succulent. The vodka's flavor profile is an entrée-sized portion of juicy mango with hints of cinnamon, citrus zest and fresh cucumber. The combined effect is mesmerizing.

Its enticing bouquet and long-lasting flavor makes this vodka indispensable for use in a wide range of cocktails and mixed drinks. For example, it's a natural featured in a classic Daiquiri or a Mango Gimlet. Then there's the specialty drink Mango Heat, which is a tall, iced drink made with Van Gogh Mango Vodka, orange juice and fresh horseradish. It is precisely balanced between the spicy heat of the horseradish and the pronounced flavor of the fruit.

Before adding it to mixed drinks, do yourself a favor and taste this amazing vodka over a single cube of ice. You'll be stunned at just how much flavor a clear spirit can possess.
